MY URBAN PIANO Diary 1
The birth of MY URBAN PIANO
I always wanted my music to be heard by the world. Although the main reason I compose is the relentless inner need to express the music and feelings that slumber somewhere deep inside of me, to give the inexpressible a voice, the wish to share this music has always been equally strong. Music without a listener does not exist. Only when a person starts to listen, music awakens to life.
MY URBAN PIANO is the perfect vehicle to share my music with the world. When I recorded Mama in June 2016, I could not foresee how much this piece and the video would change my life. The clip generated 25.000 views in one weekend, which was totally unexpected and inspired me to take this idea to the next level: I wanted to produce more music videos in which I play my music on beautifully designed pianos in public locations. Music should be accessible to everyone, and especially classical artists need to open up and find new ways of bringing their art to the people.

It was clear from the start that this is a European project. Music has always been the medium to share the belief in human values and ideals, to propagate freedom of expression and peace on earth — core values of the European idea. That’s why we decided to travel to 12 European Capitals of Culture (Esch/Alzette in Luxembourg being the only exception, as they are now candidating for this title in 2022, and I wish to express my support for their candidature by dedicating the second video to Esch, the town where I went to school and attended music Conservatory).
I wanted to begin my tour where Mama left off, in Luxembourg city, the capital of my home country Luxembourg. The national railway company CFL supported my idea right away and agreed to provide a special train for the first videoclip. So episode 1, Train of Dreams, symbolizes the start of a journey with the goal to touch as many hearts as possible and to inspire people around the world to believe in their dreams and to fulfill them.
Train of Dreams will be premiered by RTL Luxembourg on 26th of April at 18:30 (livestream) and released on my YouTube channel on the same day. It is the first of 12 music videos that will be released in 6 to 8 week intervals. The return to Luxembourg is planned to be celebrated in summer 2018 with a final video and an open-air concert.

The single TRAIN OF DREAMS is available on streaming and download platforms like iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify.
Pianist and composer David Ianni from Luxembourg has become well-known for his project MY URBAN PIANO: a series of music videos is produced in different European Capitals of Culture. An original composition is dedicated to each city, performed on an artistically designed piano. Each piano is donated. Join the journey and follow David on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and sign up for his newsletter. Each video plus making of material is published to David’s YouTube channel.
